Favorite Playing Moment: My family is a soccer family, and my grandfather “Doc” is a Mexican immigrant to this country who played professionally in Mexico for Atlante in the late 1940s. He founded one of the first soccer clubs in Southwestern Arizona after giving up his pro contract to become a surgeon in the United States. My uncle and my father are career coaches, and my uncle is still a Division 1 coach in Southern California. My favorite thing about playing/the game is the way it brings people, the world, together. I got to witness this firsthand as a kid by being by my dad’s side while he was coaching. When I am playing, my favorite thing is competing, and there’s just nothing sweeter than scoring a goal on the back of a brilliant possession/build-up play.
