Fall 2018

November 2018

With the fall season coming to a close, the Charge entered November looking to continue their improvement as a group over the remaining three Central League games. After a home victory the first weekend of November, the Charge were on the road again to face Radnor on November 11th. With the Veteran’s Day holiday also observed on 11/11, a number of the girls wore their Marc J. Small Tournament t-shirts as warmup shirts to honor Marc and all of our veterans for their service to our country. After posting a 2-0 victory against Radnor, the Charge concluded their fall season with a 5-2 win over Chester Springs under the lights at Downingtown High School. Playing under the lights for the first time was a great way to close out an awesome first fall travel season!

October 2018

October brought another tournament opportunity for the Charge as they traveled an hour north to participate in the Western Lehigh United SC Fall Fest Tournament. In the tournament opener, the Charge played one of their best games of the season and defeated Haverford 1-0 by using team defending, good spacing and lots of passes down the flanks. Throughout the whole game, you could see the girls were having fun and were off to a great start in tournament play. That momentum carried forward to the afternoon game where the Charge defeated Main Line Soccer to close out the first day of tournament tied for a share of the division lead.

Sunday’s first match proved a little more difficult as the Charge fell to the Floral Park Direwolves 2-1 in an exciting end to end game. After having a few hours to rest up between games, the girls rallied in the final game of the tournament by defeating Little Neck 3-0. With 3 wins and two additional points for shutouts, the Charge took home their second tournament title and were named champions of the silver division!

The Charge rounded out their busy October schedule with three additional Central League victories but more importantly an ever growing understanding of playing together as a team!

September 2018

Looking to build on their encouraging start to the season, the Charge entered September ready to experience Central League competition for the first time. And let’s just say that experience got off to a very soggy start! With heavy rain falling the day before and the day of the game, it looked certain the team’s first league game would be postponed but Interboro (the home team) elected to move forward with the game. In what was more puddle kicking than soccer, the Charge battled to a water soaked 2-2 draw in their season opener. Thankfully sunnier skies were on the horizon (literally and figuratively) as the balance of September saw the girls notch their first home victory of the season the following week against Radnor and their first away victory at Rosetree the week after that.

August 2018

After training as a group twice per week since the spring and attending the club’s annual summer camp, the Charge were anxious to kick off their inaugural travel season together. The team’s first competitive action came in mid-August as they participated in the Baxter Blast Tournament hosted by King of Prussia Soccer Club. After winning their opening game 6-1 over the tournament hosts, the Charge followed up in game two with another strong showing by defeating Aston United 5-2.

As the girls waited to participate in their first ever tournament championship game, strong storms started to develop with eventual downpours canceling the remaining games. Despite the championship rainout, the Charge were named the tournament champs as the girls had accumulated the highest total points in their bracket thanks to the two victories and the highest goal differential. Below is a picture of the team on the tournament day as well one with their Baxter Blast championship trophy (awarded in October as that was our next scheduled trip to King of Prussia).
