Charge Stall Against West-Mont

Sept. 29, 2019 -- In the first of two meetings this season between the Methacton United Charge and the West-Mont United Union, the Charge dropped a 3-1 contest to West-Mont in Limerick. Despite the final score, outside of a 10-minute stretch in the second half when West-Mont scored all of its goals, the Charge seemed to be in control and had the majority of chances.

After Bryce and Jessa teamed up for a couple chances in the early going, the Charge struck first at the 9-minute mark. Sam made a nice play to keep the ball in bounds on the left sideline and then hit a strong cross to Brooke sprinting up the right side. Brooke took the ball downfield and hit a low shot past the keeper to give the Charge a 1-0 lead. The Charge made several defensive stops to keep West-Mont scoreless, with Brooke hustling back to stop a breakaway and Penny making a good two-handed save to deny West-Mont's best chance of the half.

In the second half, West-Mont scored a quick goal in first minute of play to tie the game. Minutes later, they went up 2-1 on a penalty kick following a handball in the box. They added their third goal with some pressure on the right side at 36 minutes.

The Charge didn't go down without a fight. Penny muscled her way through the West-Mont defense to create a couple chances, including a shot by Grace. Ava had a nice run up the right side, and Brooke got open behind the defense and clanged a shot off the post. Jessa and Brooke continued to generate scoring chances up front, with Jessa getting multiple shots, including a blast that went just wide right. As the clock ticked down, Brooke gave a tireless effort on the attack, at one point working the ball up the right side through the entire West-Mont defense to get a shot that nearly found its way past the keeper.

The Charge (3-1 Central League) face off against the Rose Tree SC Fireworks on Oct. 6.
