Flash Play Well but Drop Spring Season Finale

June 2, 2019 -- The Flash battled for the full 60 minutes Sunday but ultimately fell 1-0 to Southern Chester County SA in a nail-biter at Heebner Park.

A 30-minute lightning delay early in the game would have seemed to be a good omen for the Flash, named after the superhero whose suit is emblazoned with a lightning bolt. However, it was Southern Chester County that struck first, and it turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Aidan made two good saves in the first half to keep the Flash in the game. The first came on a shot from inside the 18 that was ticketed for the upper left corner. He also denied a shot from in close following a corner kick.

From the midpoint of the first half through the end of the game, the Flash controlled play in the middle of the field and created several quality scoring opportunities. Peyton and Avinh teamed up for a couple good chances, and a blast from Tyler off a pass from Charlie required a diving save by the goalie to prevent a goal. Joey keyed several runs from the defensive end, and Grayson nearly scored following a give-and-go with Aidan. But alas, none of those efforts found the back of the net.

The Flash wrapped up their spring schedule with a record of 2-2-1 and look forward to building on their success in the fall.

Flash's Offense Gets Rolling Against KoP

May 18, 2019 -- The Flash turned in a strong effort in a 4-0 win against King of Prussia at Heebner Park. The Flash communicated well in the field, controlled the ball for much of the game, and peppered the KoP net with shots throughout the match.

Aidan put the Flash on the board early with a shot from the 18 that snuck past the goaltender. Grayson nearly extended the lead a few moments later when he clanged a shot off the post. Later in the half, the KoP goalie had to make a tough save on a good shot by Will.

The Flash converted more chances in the second half. Tyler gave the Flash a 2-0 lead by banking in a corner kick off a KoP defender. A few minutes later, Colin's hustle paid off as he followed up his own mishit by lacing a shot past the goaltender.

King of Prussia had their best chance with a big shot on a direct kick, but Charlie made a strong save to preserve the shutout.

The Flash had numerous other scoring opportunities, including a one-timer by Avinash off a centering pass from Aidan, a shot by Grayson that would have gone in if not for a diving save, a one-timer by Aidan off a pass from Vance, a shot off the post by Colin, a shot by Chase that went just wide off a centering pass by Avinash, and a penalty kick by Connor.

Kenny put the icing on the cake with the Flash's fourth goal, off a corner kick by Aidan. Joey nearly added a goal of his own, but the KoP goalie was up to the challenge.

Vance and Charlie combined for the clean sheet. The Flash improved to 2-1-1 in spring play with the win.

Flash Continue Strong Play with Tie Against FC Europa

May 5, 2019 -- The Flash outplayed FC Europa but had to settle for a 2-2 tie on a muy mojada cinco de mayo. In what was likely one of the only outdoor soccer games being played in the tri-state area on Sunday, the players dealt with conditions of alternating steady rain and drizzle.

FC Europa got a goal five minutes into the game, but the Flash answered quickly. After sustained pressure in the offensive zone, Tyler stole the ball off a goal kick and buried a shot in the lower-left corner of the net. Grayson and Aidan had good chances near the end of the first half, including a double-doink off the crossbar that would have made Cody Parkey proud.

James gave the Flash the lead in the 43rd minute, with a hard shot that slipped past the goaltender. Vance followed with a couple of nice saves to keep the score at 2-1.

The Flash had several opportunities to extend the lead. Tyler and Connor executed a pretty give-and-go up the left side, followed by a centering pass to Aaron, who nearly made it a 3-1 game. Tyler and Connor both had good shots late, before FC Europa lofted another shot into the goal to tie the game with 12 minutes to go.

Flash Rally but Fall Late to Coventry

April 14, 2019 -- “Live by the late goal, die by the late goal” could very well be the Flash’s motto this spring. After winning in the final minute of play last week, the Flash were victimized by a late goal Sunday and fell 3-2 to Coventry SA in Pottstown.

Colin was the man of the match for the Flash, scoring two second half goals to give his team a chance to win. His first goal came off an assist from Connor and tied the game at 1-1. The Flash’s second goal was especially pretty. Colin gathered a one-touch volley from Charlie and, with two quick touches, lofted the ball over the goalie and into the net.

Two minutes later, Coventry evened the score at 2-2, which is where it stayed until Coventry netted the game-winner in the 49th minute.

The Flash put a slow start behind them and came out with a focused, determined effort in the second half. Aidan made some strong saves in the second half to keep the game within reach.

Flash Kick Off The Spring 2019 Season With A W

April 7, 2019 -- The grass at Heebner Park was green, the fields were lined and (at least for a while) the sun was shining, making it a perfect day to open the spring soccer season. And the Flash showed they have a flair for the dramatic, registering a 1-0 win over Phoenixville that came right down to the wire.

In a back-and-forth game that featured a few good chances at each end of the pitch, the key play came on a corner kick in the last minute of play. Christian, a call-up from the 2009 Legends team, rose to the occasion and knocked in a well-placed corner kick from Tyler, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Charlie and Josh, another 2009 Legends call-up, combined for the clean sheet in goal, with a big assist from the strong defense in front of them.

The Flash were clearly eager to get the spring season underway, as the team’s hustle was on full display. Players were sprinting all over the field to win loose balls or keep the ball inbounds. The Flash will look to keep the good times rolling Sunday in Pottstown against Coventry SA.

Flash Earn Two Big Wins Over Rose Tree and Coventry

Nov. 11, 2018 -- What a difference a day makes. Playing with an enthusiasm previously unknown to mankind, the Flash came out strong with two victories Sunday, 4-0 over the Rose Tree SC Thunder and 2-1 against the Coventry SA Sharks.

After a lackluster effort Saturday in a loss to Lower Merion, Methacton United was back in action with a doubleheader on the turf at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken. And prove themselves is exactly what the Flash did.

Against Rose Tree SC, the Flash got on the board first with some smart passing. Colin started the play with a pass to Brendan on the outside. Brendan moved the ball to Tyler in the corner, who crossed to Kenny. Kenny’s initial shot hit the goalie, and he knocked in the rebound.

Later in the first half, Jaxon made an awesome leaping save to rob Rose Tree of a certain goal and maintain the shutout.

The Flash got their second goal early in the second half when Chase made a sweet pass up the wing to Tyler, who fired a shot that banked in off a defender. Kenny tallied his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute, with a rocket shot off a pass from Cody. Later, Cody nearly had a goal of his own as his hard shot just missed.

Brendan completed the scoring for the Flash on a breakaway, as he played the ball upfield, outraced a defender, and slid the ball under the goalie and into the corner of the net.

Colin was flying around the turf all day, including racing back toward the Flash goal from midfield to deny a Rose Tree breakaway. Jaxon and Aidan combined for the clean sheet for the Flash.

In the second game, the Flash scored first once again, as Charlie collected a corner kick from Colin at the top of the 18 and lofted a shot over the Coventry goalie’s head.

The Flash escaped to halftime with the 1-0 lead, surviving an offensive onslaught from Coventry and at one point denying five consecutive corner kicks.

As Coventry continued the attack early in the second half, Aidan made an incredible, game-saving, diving stop on a 1-on-none breakaway. If not for that save, the Flash may have had to settle for a tie.

Coventry briefly evened the score at 1-1, but the Flash took the lead right back. Avinash took a throw-in from Tyler and put a shot on goal. With Brendan and Jaxon crashing the net, it was Brendan who banged home the rebound to put Methacton United up 2-1. After peppering the Rose Tree goalie with numerous shots in the first game, Tyler nearly added a goal against Coventry with a strong shot that went just wide.

Grayson, Connor and Joey anchored the defense in both games and played a big role in the wins. Sometimes it’s not glamorous, but it takes a full team effort to win on the pitch, and the Flash’s defense got the job done today.

The wins evened the Flash’s Central league record at 3-3-1. Interestingly, the Flash are particularly unstoppable when they play more then one game in a day. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Flash improved to 7-2-0 when they play multiple games on the same day.

Flash Fall To Lower Merion 2-0

Nov. 10, 2018 -- Well, at least it didn't rain.

Flash Battle Hard but Fall on Late Goal

Oct. 20, 2018 -- In a very evenly-matched contest, the Liverpool FC Reds snuck past the Methacton United Flash, 1-0 at Delco Christian Elementary School. The game was scoreless at halftime, and Liverpool tallied with four minutes left in the game to steal the win from the jaws of a tie.

The Flash controlled play in the first half but weren't able to get on the scoreboard. Their best chance came when Kenny hit a penalty kick off the crossbar, and Avinash put in the rebound. However, the Flash were ruled offsides on the play. In the second half, it was the Flash who benefited from an offsides call, which negated a would-be Liverpool goal. Charlie and Aidan played well in goal for the Flash, with each netminder making multiple saves.

The Flash will look to rebound next weekend in games Saturday and Sunday at Heebner Park, where they are undefeated.

Flash Take Home Opener 2-1 Over Phoenixville

Oct. 14, 2018 -- The Flash's home opener was delayed until mid-October due to rain, but it was worth the wait as they scored a 2-1 victory over Phoenixville at Heebner Park. Wearing pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Flash claimed their first Central League win and improved their record to 1-2-1.

Tyler put Methacton United on top with the game's first goal at the 12-minute mark of the first half. He won a loose ball outside the penalty box and drilled a shot that got through the goalie. Phoenixville recovered from a flat start and turned up its attack as the first half progressed, tying the game in the 20th minute. The Flash got strong offensive support from Colin, who frequently joined the attack from his center defense position. Connor also stood out on the defensive end, stopping repeated Phoenixville attacks with calm, steady play.

The Flash got the eventual game-winner midway through the second half. Brendan controlled the ball on the left side and centered to Kenny. Kenny quickly worked it out wide to Tyler, who buried his second goal of the game. However, the excitement didn't stop there. The Flash had to survive a penalty kick with eight minutes to go, as Phoenixville clanged the shot off the crossbar. Aidan made several good stops in net in the second half to preserve the win.

And it was, clearly, the best officiated game of the season.

Flash Reach Semifinals of Jack Walsh Tournament

Oct. 7, 2018 -- The Flash continued their strong play during the second day of the Jack Walsh Tournament, winning their group and advancing to the semifinals.

The Flash completed an undefeated sweep through their bracket with a 5-0 win over the Lower Merion Rams in the morning session. Grayson got the scoring barrage underway by corralling a loose ball in front of the net and knocking in a goal four minutes into the game. After sustained pressure and a near miss by Connor, Cody followed up his own shot and slammed home the rebound. Minutes later, Jaxon one-timed a corner kick from Tyler to put the Flash up 3-0. In the second half, Charlie played a high ball into the box and Jaxon roofed it under the crossbar for another goal. Some hard work by Chase and Avinash on the attack eventually led to Jack getting the ball behind the defense. He hit a strong shot past the goalie for the Flash's final goal of the game. On the defensive side of the ball, Jack and Aidan combined for the shutout in net.

The Flash ended group play tied for the most goals (9) of any team in their division, while only allowing one goal. There were 14 teams in the Flash's division, and the Flash were one of only four teams to advance to the semifinals.

In the semis, the Flash faced a very strong Deep Run team. Coming into the matchup, Deep Run had not allowed a goal the entire tournament. The Flash would soon put an end to that streak. Deep Run went on the attack early, controlling the ball in the Methacton United end and scoring off a corner kick at the 13-minute mark. But the Flash did not wilt under the pressure. Grayson, Joey and Brendan locked down the back line on defense, stopping repeated attacks by Deep Run. The Flash responded just six minutes later, as Cody made a nice run up the left side. His well-timed cross found Aidan, who lofted a one-timer over the Deep Run goalie to tie the game at 1-1 and swing the momentum back to Methacton United. You just don't see prettier goals in 10-year-old soccer. The teams traded chances and stops for the rest of the half, but the score remained 1-1 at halftime.

As the sun came out and the temperature hit 80 degrees in the second half, the Flash fought through the heat and battled Deep Run for another 25 minutes of physical soccer. Colin, Tyler and Cody contested every ball in the middle of the field and worked tirelessly to move the ball into the offensive zone. With the score still knotted 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game went to a 10-minute sudden death overtime period. The Flash fought off a few early chances by Deep Run, but ultimately Deep Run found the back of the net for the win. Deep Run went on to win the championship, providing more proof that the Flash faced some of the toughest competition in the tournament.

"I'm so proud of how much every player has improved so far this season," said Methacton United coach Colleen Wolf. "When I think back to our first practices of the summer and look at how well we played this weekend, everyone has gotten stronger and we're really beginning to gel as a team."

Flash Come Out Strong with Two Wins on First Day of Jack Walsh Tournament

Oct. 6, 2018 -- As the calendar turned to October, the rejuvenated Flash put a frustrating end of September behind them and notched two wins on the opening day of the Jack Walsh Tournament.

The Flash came out flying in game one, controlling play for most of the contest en route to a 7-1 win over the Whitpain Wolverines. The Flash got back-to-back goals from Brendan along with one from Tyler to take a 3-0 lead within the first six minutes of action. Jack and Kenny also tallied for the Flash, and Whitpain got on the board just before halftime to make it 5-1. In the second half, Aidan intercepted a goal kick and buried the shot to extend the Flash's lead. An unselfish play and pretty pass from Avinash set up Tyler for the game's final goal.

In the second game of the tourney, the Flash played their best game of the season thus far in a thrilling 1-0 victory against a talented PA Rush White squad. It was a complete team effort by the Flash on both sides of the ball, with every single player contributing to the win. Charlie was strong in net to record the clean sheet, including numerous saves on corner kicks. After a scoreless first half that featured multiple chances at both ends, a throw-in from Aidan and bicycle kick by Colin got Cody the ball in space on the left side. Cody dribbled in and fired a shot past the PA Rush goalie to give the Flash the advantage three minutes into the second half. Instead of sitting back and being content with the lead, the Flash kept up the attack. Brendan nearly gave the Flash their second goal with a shot off the crossbar, Jaxon had a chance in front of the net, and Kenny got free on a breakaway near the end of the game. PA Rush fought hard to the end, but the Flash defense held strong to close out the game and preserve the win.

Everyone on the Flash had a role in both wins. Grayson and Joey anchored the defense and stymied numerous attacks. Colin, Connor, Avinash, Aidan and Chase controlled play in the midfield on both sides of the ball. Tyler, Brendan, Cody and Kenny were relentless on the attack. And Charlie, Jaxon and Jack stood tall in net. The Flash have their final game of group play Sunday at 10 am against Lower Merion, with a chance to capture their group and advance to the semifinals.

Rusty Flash Fall to Nether United

Sept. 30, 2018 -- With just two practices in the past 24 days, you could forgive the Flash if they'd forgotten what a soccer ball looked like. Forced from their home field after one of the wettest Septembers on record, they traveled south to face a tough Nether United FC Black team Sunday.

The Flash trailed 1-0 after a back-and-forth first half, with Nether United getting the majority of quality scoring chances. Connor and Brendan both made goal-saving defensive plays to keep the score close. Some lackluster play to open the second half led to a pair of goals by Nether United. The Flash rallied with some offensive pressure late, but ultimately fell 4-0.

The Flash will look to put this game behind them as they head to the Jack Walsh Tournament over Columbus Day Weekend.

Cougars Prove Too Fierce for Flash

Sept. 22, 2018 -- In their second league match of the season, the Flash faced off against a talented White Clay SC Cougars squad in Landenberg, Pa.

The Cougars opened play with a quick goal and dominated possession early, having the look of team that might run away with the game. But thanks to strong play in goal by Charlie, including a pair of diving saves, and sturdy defense by Colin, Grayson and Joey, the Flash steadied themselves and kept the Cougars off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half.

The Flash began building some offensive momentum toward the end of the first half, and it carried over into the second half, as Cody banged home a feed from Grayson to knot the game at 1-1. However, the Cougars were not to be denied on this day, scoring two more goals en route to a 3-1 victory.

The Flash will take on Phoenixville SC in their home opener Sept. 29, followed by Nether United FC Black on Sunday.

Flash Battle to a Draw in League Opener

Sept. 15, 2018 -- The Flash opened their Central League schedule with a 4-4 tie against FC Europa in Paoli. Methacton United took the pitch wearing their blue kits for the away tilt.

The Flash got on the board early with a goal in the first minute of play, as Tyler finished off a left-side cross from Cody. After FC Europa tied the score at 1-1, Tyler struck again with another one-touch finish, this time on a right-side cross from Brendan, to put Methacton back on top. A late goal from FC Europa sent the clubs into halftime tied 2-2.

The Flash kept up the offensive pressure after the break. Jaxon controlled the ball just inside the FC Europa 18, turned and fired a shot past the goaltender. Minutes later, Kenny went upper-left to convert a penalty kick and put Methacton United up 4-2. FC Europa fought back and scored two unanswered goals, including a 1-on-none breakaway, to earn the tie.

U11 Flash Take Second Place at 2018 Al Perlini Memorial Tournament

September 1, 2018 -- Methacton United's U11 Flash took home silver medals after finishing second in their division at the 31st Al Perlini Memorial Tournament Sept. 1 in Warminster, Pa. The Flash jumped out of the gate with an impressive 2-0 shutout over Southampton SA Barcelona in the opener.

Their second game pitted the Flash against the eventual division champion, Yardley Markefield. The Flash battled in a hard-fought, very physical game, ultimately falling 2-0 (although we still think we scored as time expired in the second half!).

As the temperatures climbed during the afternoon, the Flash stayed focused, closing out the tournament with a 3-0 win against the Upper Darby Futbol Blasters and a 4-1 victory over Upper Dublin White DRA. This strong tournament performance gives the team good momentum heading into their Central League schedule this fall. Go Flash!
